What does it look like?
Reddish tinted tan spots in the lawn, which spread rapidly. Roughly 70-80% of lawns have been affected this year.
What causes it?
Fungus enters the disease cycle with prolonged wet conditions and cool to mid temperatures. Lawns with low nutrient levels have increased effects.
What can we do about it?
- Fungicide Treatments
-
- Stop the spread, if timed early enough
- Applied twice, 2-3 weeks apart
- Fertilization – Build healthy grass to replace damaged turf
What should I expect next?
- Return to Green: A balanced fertilization program, drainage, and enough sunlight will help the lawn bounce back.
- Weed Pressure: Despite hard work and proper practices, red thread may thin the lawn temporarily, which encourages weed encroachment. We will continue to treat weeds where they pop up.
